Patients Q&A

Thank you so much for your business!  It is our sincere hope that you may receive exceptional service and care from each member of our team.  In order to best serve you, please read the following suggestions to make your visit an easy and pleasant experience.

In order to properly schedule your MRI, we require the following items from your referring doctor:

  • A signed order with a valid ICD-9 code faxed to 972.479.9544
  • All insurance information, Worker’s Compensation documentation, or Letter of Protection paperwork

Our benefits coordinator will contact your insurance company and / or necessary party once we have received this information.  In cases of insurance, you will be notified prior to your appointment with payment details.

For safety reasons, patients with the following will be unable to have an MRI:

  • Cardiac pacemaker and / or defibrillator
  • Tissue expander (including breast)
  • Aneurysm Clip
  • Any implanted or non-removable electronic or magnetic device (ie: neurostimulator, biostimulator, mechanical artificial heart valves, cochlear implant, etc.)
  • Artificial joints or spinal fixation devices placed surgically within the past 6 months (including pins, rods, screws, nails, plates, wires)
  • Metal shavings in the eye

Should your doctor order an MRI with gadolinium contrast, we are unable to scan the following:

  • Pregnant or nursing patients.  The potential risks of this type of contrast injection are currently unknown in pregnant and lactating women, but some studies have shown that the contrast could negatively affect the fetus.  It is also possible that this contrast could be passed to a nursing child through the mother’s breast milk.  For this reason, our policy is not inject gadolinium in pregnant or nursing patients.
  • Patients with elevated creatinine levels or moderate to significant chronic renal disease.  There is documented evidence of severe complications in patients with chronically elevated creatinine levels, as determined by age.  These complications can included contrast-induced nephropathy, dialysis, and death.  We will not inject gadolinium in patients with elevated creatinine levels, currently on dialysis, or in advanced renal failure.  Please have recent serum creatinine levels available if applicable.

 Day of your MRI appointment:

  • Please eat and drink normally.
  • We request that you arrive 30 minutes prior to your exam to fill out necessary paperwork and allow time to prepare for the exam.  To expedite check-in, you may obtain and complete the paperwork prior to your MRI appointment by printing the following forms.  Form Tab Here
  • All patients must provide a valid form of identification upon arrival.
  • Once paperwork is complete, you will be escorted to a private changing room where you will be provided comfortable scrub suits and / or patient gowns.  All valuables will be secured in the locked changing room.
  • We require that all removable dental work and hearing aids be removed prior to entering the MRI room.  We also ask that any body piercing jewelry, necklaces, watches, bracelets, and hair accessories be removed.
  • Due to the temperature requirements of the MRI machine, the scan room is cold.  We recommend that you bring socks for your comfort.
  • During the procedure, you will be comfortably positioned in an upright posture, in most cases.  Unlike traditional MRI units, there will be nothing directly in front of your face.  You can enjoy a DVD movie of your choice (see movie list) on a 42” TV screen or listen to music throughout the MRI scan.
  • Once your MRI is complete, our registered technologist will securely transmit all of your MRI images to our radiology team to be read and interpreted.  The final report will be provided to your referring physician within 24 hours.

We hope you find this information helpful.  Should you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us at 972.479.9500.
